In My Father's Shoes

In My Father's Shoes, wood cut print

Memories are the footprints along life’s journey and the deeper “footprints”, the biggest impressions are usually those made by parents, children and significant “others”. images in this work act as metaphors for a bigger journey, that of parenting; of caring; showing the way; following in the footsteps of a wiser, or maybe just more experienced one; but also acknowledging the ability to learn and grow from the child.

The sheetbend knot is a metaphor for the inextricable link and interaction between parent and child; past and present; dreams and ambition; memory and focus. The compass shows the direction but we choose which way to go.

Of course the images are also a simple recording of roads travelled, places visited and even future journeys

These works appeared with the Travels with the Kombi works in an exhibition in 2007
